Seth Meyers Roasts Kristi Noem After Firing: ‘How Will She Afford All Those Costumes?’

Late-night host Seth Meyers poked fun at former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem after she was removed from her position, joking that he was worried about how she would afford her “costumes” now that she is out of the job.
During Thursday night’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Meyers opened his “A Closer Look” segment by discussing several major issues voters prioritized when electing Donald Trump, including immigration.
Meyers joked that the administration had struggled on those issues and noted that Noem had been dismissed from her role as Homeland Security secretary.
“What? Kristi Noem is out?” Meyers said. “But where is she going to get the money for all her wonderful costumes?”
As he made the joke, the show displayed a collage of different outfits Noem has worn at public appearances, including firefighter gear, cowboy hats and military-style clothing.
Meyers continued the bit by joking that viewers were “only months away” from seeing Noem appear dressed as both main characters from the musical Wicked.
The comedian then turned his attention to Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin, who has been mentioned as a possible replacement.
Meyers mocked a recent interview Mullin gave about Iran’s nuclear program, during which the senator compared rebuilding nuclear capabilities to how doctors repair broken bones after serious accidents.
“I mean, are you sure you don’t want to make him Secretary of Health?” Meyers joked, laughing at the analogy.
The segment was part of Meyers’ regular political commentary, which often mixes news events with satire.
The full “A Closer Look” segment aired Thursday night on NBC and is available online.
