Marjorie Taylor Greene Blasts Trump Over Iran Strike as MAGA Rift Deepens

Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene publicly broke with President Donald Trump on Saturday, condemning his administration’s decision to carry out coordinated strikes with Israel against Iran and calling the move a “betrayal” of his “America First” agenda.

In a lengthy post on X, Greene said supporters believed Trump’s 2024 victory would mark a shift toward prioritizing domestic concerns over foreign intervention.

“We thought the victory won in 2024 would be finally time to put America First,” she wrote. “And we thought that meant the common American man and woman and their children. Not the elites.”

The United States and Israel confirmed early Saturday that they launched joint strikes on Iranian military and strategic targets, describing the action as a pre-emptive operation. Explosions were reported in Tehran as the Israel Defense Forces and U.S. officials said the sites posed direct security threats.

In a video message, Trump warned Iranian civilians to seek shelter, stating that “bombs will be dropping everywhere.” Iran’s Supreme National Security Council confirmed it had begun retaliatory operations, while the Israeli military reported ongoing missile launches toward Israel that triggered air defense systems across the country.

Greene sharply criticized the rationale for the strike, accusing Trump of abandoning campaign promises to avoid new foreign wars.

“Instead, we get a war with Iran on behalf of Israel,” she wrote. “Another foreign war for foreign people for foreign regime change. For what?”

She argued that military action would not address domestic issues such as inflation, healthcare costs or national debt, questioning how war abroad would benefit American families.

Greene’s criticism highlights a widening split within the Republican Party, particularly among anti-interventionist conservatives who supported Trump’s earlier pledges to avoid prolonged overseas conflicts.

Other lawmakers also weighed in. Representative Thomas Massie said Congress should vote on any military engagement with Iran, citing constitutional requirements. Senator Rand Paul echoed similar concerns, while Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized the administration for failing to provide details about the threat assessment.

Meanwhile, some Democrats, including Senator John Fetterman, voiced support for the operation, calling it necessary for regional stability.

The strike marks the second major U.S. military action against Iran in less than a year and comes amid broader tensions across the Middle East. As Iran launches retaliatory measures and U.S. forces brace for possible escalation, political divisions at home appear to be intensifying.

Whether the operation strengthens Trump’s standing or further fractures his coalition remains an open question as lawmakers prepare to reconvene and debate the path forward.
