FBI Director Kash Patel Sparks Outrage After Deploying SWAT Team to Protect Girlfriend

Kash Patel is facing mounting scrutiny after assigning a full-time FBI SWAT team to protect his girlfriend, country singer and political commentator Alexis Wilkins, in what former bureau officials are calling an unprecedented and inappropriate use of federal law enforcement resources.
According to multiple reports, Patel authorized an open-ended, round-the-clock tactical security detail for Wilkins, 27, deploying agents from the FBI’s elite Special Weapons and Tactics division to accompany her to hair salon appointments, conservative political fundraisers, and even an exclusive dinner in the United Kingdom. The arrangement has sparked internal concern within the bureau, where SWAT teams are typically reserved for counterterrorism operations and high-risk arrests.
An FBI spokesperson, Ben Williamson, defended the security measures, saying Wilkins faces “more than a dozen active death threats,” including threats involving graphic violence, allegedly stemming from her relationship with Patel. Williamson previously indicated that the number of threats had reached into the “hundreds.”
Still, critics argue the protection goes well beyond established protocol. Historically, spouses of FBI directors have received protection only when traveling with the director. Providing a standalone, full-time tactical detail to a director’s partner represents a significant departure from precedent.
Christopher O’Leary, a former senior executive in the FBI’s counterterrorism division, sharply criticized the arrangement. “If you want to be a celebrity or a social media star, get your own security,” he said, adding that “the inappropriateness of this cannot be overstated.”
Shortly after taking office last February, Patel reportedly increased FBI staffing in Nashville, Tennessee, where Wilkins lives, assigning a four-agent tactical unit and two government vehicles to her protection. According to an internal official, Patel bypassed recommendations that the plan undergo a formal legal review.
The security detail has also accompanied Wilkins on extensive travel. In January, agents secured a California country club fundraiser where she performed the national anthem before transporting her 135 miles to Los Angeles International Airport. Last May, tactical officers and an embassy vehicle were reportedly deployed to escort Wilkins to a dinner with King Charles III at Windsor Castle after British protection services declined to retrieve her from the airport.
Patel, 46, has rejected accusations of impropriety. Speaking on a conservative podcast, he denied misusing agency resources, saying that if he were exploiting the system, he would “go see every one of her shows.” He has previously described Wilkins on social media as a “rock-solid conservative” who has made significant contributions to the country.

Wilkins, who released her debut single “Holdin’ On” in 2020, met Patel in late 2022 at a Nashville record release party. In recent years, her public profile has shifted toward politics. She has worked with Women for Gun Rights and Arizona Congressman Abraham Hamadeh and now brands herself as a political commentator.
She recently filed $5 million defamation lawsuits against three conservative influencers who alleged she was an Israeli intelligence operative. Wilkins has also drawn controversy for online remarks, including labeling a nurse killed by federal agents in Minneapolis a “domestic terrorist.”
Wilkins has declined to comment publicly on her security arrangements.
The unusual deployment of FBI tactical officers for the personal protection of a director’s partner is likely to intensify questions over internal oversight and the use of federal law enforcement resources.
