Lemonheads Singer Evan Dando Hospitalized for Mental Health Issues, After Fan Posts Account of Receiving Unsolicited Sexual Videos

Singer Evan Dando, frontman and founder of the alternative-rock band The Lemonheads, was hospitalized Thursday following allegations that he sent explicit, unsolicited videos to a female fan. The incident marks the latest setback for the 58-year-old musician, who has struggled publicly with mental illness and substance abuse for decades.

In a statement issued by his representative, Dando was described as having “long struggled with mental health issues dating back to his childhood.” The statement confirmed that he has been admitted to a local hospital, where he is receiving comprehensive care from doctors and mental health professionals.

The allegations were first detailed Thursday by the website The Underground Bunker. According to the report, a woman identified under the pseudonym “Dawn” said she had exchanged brief, friendly messages with Dando on social media years ago and reached out again last October to congratulate him on the release of Love Chant, The Lemonheads’ first album in 20 years.

Dawn said she did not initially receive a response, but last week Dando allegedly resumed contact. What followed, she claims, were late-night direct messages and explicit videos sent without her consent. She said she was shocked to open one message and find a video of Dando masturbating.

According to her account, she had not agreed to receive such material and did not understand what prompted the exchange to escalate. She described feeling angered and disturbed by the messages, particularly after Dando allegedly referred to needing “an outlet.”

The report states that Dawn and her husband documented the messages and videos. They were unsure how to proceed and eventually contacted The Underground Bunker after receiving no response from other outlets.

Dando has been candid about his personal struggles. In his 2025 memoir, Rumors of My Demise, he wrote about decades of heroin addiction, financial hardship, and deteriorating health, describing periods when he was living in severe distress and battling dependency.

Following the alleged incident, Dando’s account on X, formerly Twitter, was reportedly deactivated for a time before disappearing again. He has not issued a public statement addressing the specific allegations beyond the general statement from his representative confirming his hospitalization.

No criminal charges have been announced, and it is unclear whether any formal complaint has been filed. The episode adds to a complicated legacy for Dando, whose music career has often been intertwined with well-documented personal challenges.
