NFL Commissioner Defends Bad Bunny After Anti-ICE Grammy Speech: ‘One of the Great Artists in the World’

A few short days after Bad Bunny’s anti-ICE speech at the Grammy Award celebration, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is coming out in support of the award-winning musician, commending him for the incredible courage he demonstrated expressing his core political values amidst the public spotlight.

According to Yahoo Sports, Goodell spoke about both Bad Bunny’s upcoming halftime show at Sunday’s Super Bowl game as well as the artist’s speech at the Grammy Awards this past weekend.

“Listen, Bad Bunny is, and I think that was demonstrated last night, one of the great artists in the world. That’s one of the reasons we chose him,” the NFL commissioner said.

“But the other reason is he understood the platform he was on, and that this platform is used to unite people and to be able to bring people together with their creativity, with their talent, and to be able to use this moment to do that,” Goodell continued. “I think artists in the past have done that, I think Bad Bunny understands that, and I think he’ll have a great performance.”

Goodell’s comments come roughly three days after Bad Bunny called out ICE and the Department of Homeland Security for their aggressive anti-immigration initiatives, most especially for their controversial operations in Minnesota.

“Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say ICE out,” the artist said in his speech. “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans. Also, I will say to people, I know it’s tough to know not to hate on these days and I was thinking sometimes, we get contaminados [contaminated], I don’t know how to say that in English.

The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love.”

In response to Bad Bunny’s booking at the Super Bowl halftime show, the conservative Turning Point USA has announced plans to host their own halftime show headlined by Kid Rock. The event has been named the “All-American Halftime Show,” with performances from various artists like Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett.
