Former President Donald Trump claimed in a Truth Social post that he is personally funding the construction of what he described as “one of the greatest and most beautiful ballrooms anywhere in the world” at the White House, calling it a gift worth between $300 million and $400 million to the United States.
In the lengthy post, Trump said the project would be financed with private donations from what he called “Great American Patriots,” insisting there would be “zero taxpayer funding” involved. He framed the ballroom as a long-overdue upgrade, arguing that presidents for more than a century have struggled with the lack of a permanent, secure indoor space for major state events, inaugurations, and large diplomatic gatherings.
Trump said the new ballroom would eliminate the need for temporary outdoor tents, which he criticized as unsafe, vulnerable to weather, and inadequate for high-security events. He claimed the project is being developed in close coordination with the U.S. military and the Secret Service to meet security requirements.
The former president also revealed that the project is now facing a lawsuit from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which he accused of trying to block the construction. Trump called the legal challenge politically motivated and described the group as “obstructionists” who “couldn’t care less about our country.”
According to Trump, key materials for the project including structural steel, bulletproof glass, marble, stone, HVAC equipment, and anti-drone roofing have already been ordered or prepared, making it impractical to halt construction. “It is too late,” he wrote, warning that stopping the project would be “devastating to the White House, our Country, and all concerned.”
He also argued that the portion of the White House complex affected by the construction, including areas near the East Wing, has been so extensively modified over decades that it no longer resembles its original form, undermining claims that the project threatens historical integrity.
Trump further asserted that presidents have long held broad authority to make changes to the White House grounds without outside approval and said Congress had never attempted to block the project. He suggested that the lawsuit has already created national security concerns by exposing what he claimed had previously been “top secret” coordination with security agencies.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation has not yet issued a public response to Trump’s latest claims. It remains unclear what stage, if any, the ballroom project has reached, or whether any formal approvals have been granted by federal authorities.
The post adds to a growing list of controversial claims Trump has made on Truth Social in recent weeks, often framing his actions as patriotic contributions while accusing critics and institutions of acting in bad faith.
