President Donald Trump said he is considering legal action against author Michael Wolff and the estate of Jeffrey Epstein, accusing them of conspiring to damage his political career.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump described Wolff as a “third-rate writer” and said emails recently made public show Wolff advising Epstein on how media questions about Trump could be used for political leverage during the 2016 campaign.

The emails, released as part of the latest document dump by the U.S. Department of Justice, show Wolff and Epstein discussing how Trump might respond if asked publicly about his relationship with Epstein. In one exchange, Wolff suggested Epstein “let him hang himself” rather than helping craft a response, arguing that Trump’s answer could create “valuable PR and political currency.”

Trump said the correspondence demonstrates an effort to harm him politically and indicated he would “probably sue Wolff,” adding that he may also consider action involving Epstein’s estate.

The president also argued that the newly released Epstein files clear him of wrongdoing, although he said he had not personally reviewed the materials and did not explain the basis for that claim. The DOJ has stated that being named in the documents does not imply criminal conduct and noted that some materials contain unverified or false allegations.

Wolff has previously said his contact with Epstein was part of research for several books, including Fire and Fury, his account of Trump’s first administration. He has stated that he recorded more than 100 hours of conversations with Epstein between 2014 and 2019 as background research and that they exchanged numerous emails during that period.

The broader release of more than three million documents also references other public figures, including Bill Gates and Prince Andrew. Representatives for Gates have denied allegations referenced in the files, calling them false, while the context and authenticity of some images and claims involving Prince Andrew remain unclear.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the department made “extensive redactions” to protect victims’ identities and remove explicit material, adding that the release marks the end of a lengthy review process.

As the latest tranche of Epstein-related documents circulates, the focus has shifted to how individuals named in the records are responding — and whether legal challenges may follow.
