Ruth Bader Ginsburg ‘home and doing well’ after hospitalization, Supreme Court says
Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been discharged from the hospital and has reached home after suffering from chills and fever according to the Supreme Court. The spokeswoman for the court said that Bader Ginsburg is at home and recovering well now.
The 86-year old has been initially evaluated at Sibley Memorial Hospital in DC, and then was transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore on Friday night for treatment for a potential infection. The high court said that these symptoms have gone down since she received an IV of antibiotics and fluids.
This hospital stay comes only days after she returned to the bench after missing one day in court because of a stomach bug. She had, on Friday, participated in a regular closed-door conference with other judges of the Supreme Court.
Ginsburg has survived cancer four times and has had a long history of medical conditions. She was treated for pancreatic cancer in fall last year. This came after two months of her undergoing surgery to remove carcinogenic nodes. She also had fractured three of her ribs in a fall at her office itself.
Her health has become a regular issue that the court has faced as it gets wide-reaching cases which can transform the face of American law. Since Trump has come to the office, two appointments have been made by him in the Supreme Court. These have been Neil Gorsuch in 2017, and Brett Kavanaugh, in 2018. This has created a majority of conservatives on the bench.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg is known for her strong opinions on civil rights issues and landmark cases such as the one that opened up the Virginia Military Institute to women. She has dissented to cases to encourage Democrats to take a stand even as the Republicans hold control of the White House and Senate. She has said that she will continue to do the job as long as she can fulfill all her duties in full steam.
She has also been quoted saying these reassuring words: “I was OK this last term. I expect to be OK next term, and after that, we’ll just have to see.”
