‘Blasphemous’: MAGA Revolt After Donald Trump Posts AI Image of Himself as Jesus

A backlash is building among some conservatives after Donald Trump shared an AI-generated image of himself portrayed as Jesus and not everyone on his side is happy about it.
The image, posted Sunday on Truth Social, shows Trump in religious-style robes appearing to heal someone, with American flags, eagles, and the Statue of Liberty in the background. Instead of praise, though, the post quickly drew criticism, especially from religious conservatives who felt it crossed a line.

Some prominent voices spoke out. Conservative activist Riley Gaines questioned why Trump would share something like that, saying she didn’t understand the decision and warning that it was inappropriate. Right-wing commentator Michael Knowles also suggested the post should be taken down, saying it could have negative consequences both politically and spiritually.
Even Marjorie Taylor Greene, who is usually a strong supporter of Trump, criticized the post — a rare move — calling it troubling and saying she was praying about the situation.
The reaction comes at an already tense time. Earlier the same day, Trump had criticized Pope Leo XIV over foreign policy issues and tensions involving Iran, which had already caused some division among his supporters.
For some people, the combination of criticizing a religious leader and then sharing an image depicting himself in a Christ-like role felt like too much.
Overall, the situation shows an unusual moment where some of Trump’s own supporters are openly disagreeing with him. What may have been meant as a bold or symbolic post ended up upsetting parts of his base, with some even calling it disrespectful and asking for it to be removed.
And notably, much of the criticism this time is coming from within his own supporters, not just from his usual opponents.
