Jelly Roll Dodges ICE Question While Old Photos With Kristi Noem and Trump Allies Goes Viral

Fans are questioning Jelly Roll’s political posture after a backstage moment at the Grammys where he sidestepped a question about ICE by saying he was “a dumb redneck” who didn’t follow politics.
During media interviews at the awards show, the singer – born Jason DeFord – was asked about tensions in the country as some artists spoke out against immigration enforcement. Jelly Roll replied that he hadn’t had a phone for 18 months and wasn’t up to date on political issues.
The response quickly circulated on social media, where some viewers said the explanation didn’t add up given the singer’s public history.
A TikTok creator, @noahglenncarter, posted a video arguing that Jelly Roll’s comment clashed with past photos and appearances involving political figures.
Users resurfaced an Instagram post showing Jelly Roll with Kristi Noem at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip in South Dakota, where Noem described him as a friend and praised his story.
Additional images from a UFC event showed Jelly Roll posing with public officials, including Mike Johnson and Donald Trump Jr..

Commenters also noted that Jelly Roll has previously spoken before Congress about criminal justice reform and addiction recovery, issues he has publicly advocated for.
The TikTok video suggested that, given these appearances, Jelly Roll likely had more familiarity with political figures than his Grammy comment implied.
So far, Jelly Roll has not publicly responded to the online discussion surrounding his remarks.
