Trump Begs Other Countries for Help With Iran: ‘This Should Be a Team Effort’

President Donald Trump is calling for greater international cooperation to secure the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, arguing that protecting the global oil corridor should not fall solely on the United States.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said countries that depend on oil shipments passing through the strait must help safeguard the waterway, which handles a large share of the world’s energy exports.
“The countries of the world that receive oil through the Hormuz Strait must take care of that passage, and we will help — a lot!” Trump wrote, adding that the United States would coordinate with those nations to ensure shipping operations continue “quickly, smoothly, and well.”
The president also claimed that the United States has already inflicted major damage on Iran during the ongoing conflict, stating that the country has been “completely decimated militarily and economically.” However, he stressed that securing the shipping route should now become a joint international effort.
Trump framed the proposal as a shift in strategy, saying global partners should share responsibility for protecting the key trade corridor.
“This should have always been a team effort, and now it will be,” Trump wrote, adding that broader cooperation could help bring “harmony, security, and everlasting peace.”
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea and is considered one of the most important energy transit chokepoints in the world. A significant portion of global oil exports passes through the narrow waterway each day.
Trump’s comments come as tensions in the Middle East remain high following recent U.S. and Israeli military operations targeting Iran’s leadership and military infrastructure.
The president has repeatedly argued that the United States should not bear the full cost of protecting global trade routes and has pushed allies and partners to contribute more to regional security efforts.
His latest remarks suggest that Washington may seek a broader coalition of oil-dependent nations to help patrol and secure the shipping lanes in the region moving forward.
