Former President Donald Trump revealed Monday that he recently underwent an MRI scan at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, but the White House has not provided details about what prompted the test.

The disclosure came as part of a broader health update, with Trump describing the scan results as “perfect.” However, medical experts have questioned the need for the procedure and the administration’s handling of the information, noting that such imaging is not typically part of a routine physical examination.

According to Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a cardiologist and medical analyst for CNN, an MRI is not a standard screening test for a president’s checkup. Reiner observed that the White House initially described Trump’s recent hospital visit as an annual physical, then later referred to it as a semiannual routine checkup after questions were raised about the timing.

Trump disclosed the medical visit while traveling aboard Air Force One to Japan. At 79 years old, he remains the second-oldest president in U.S. history, behind Joe Biden, and recent photographs showing bruising on his hands and swelling near his ankles have intensified public scrutiny of his health.

The MRI took place on October 10, marking Trump’s second medical examination since returning to office in January. Despite White House claims that the visit was part of a standard evaluation, medical professionals emphasized that MRIs are reserved for specific diagnostic purposes, not general screening.

Reiner explained that the key issue is the absence of transparency about what triggered the exam, what part of the body was scanned, and what symptoms may have led doctors to order the procedure. He also pointed out that the White House Medical Unit is equipped to perform a wide range of tests, suggesting that a visit to Walter Reed would only occur if advanced imaging—such as an MRI or CT scan—was required.

Observers have expressed concern that the lack of clarity surrounding the president’s health undermines public confidence. Analysts note that without an official medical summary detailing the purpose and results of the test, speculation about the president’s condition is likely to continue.

As of now, neither Trump nor the White House has released additional information about the nature of the MRI, the findings, or the reason for his visit to Walter Reed.
