Trump Melts Down as His Economic Approval Crashes to Record Low: ‘When Will I Get Credit?!’

President Donald Trump attempted on Thursday to quell growing voter frustration over the affordability crisis, launching into a familiar blame-shifting campaign as new polling shows his economic approval rating continuing to sink.
A newly released AP–NORC survey shows just 31 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the economy — a two-point drop from last month and a dramatic nine-point decline since March. The number marks the lowest economic approval rating recorded in either of Trump’s presidential terms.
Facing those numbers, Trump took to Truth Social to argue that voters are misunderstanding the state of the economy. “I inherited a MESS from the Biden Administration — The Worst Inflation in History, and the Highest Prices our Country has ever seen,” he wrote, again claiming without evidence that affordability was worse before he took office.
“Prices are coming down FAST, Energy, Oil and Gasoline, are hitting five year lows, and the Stock Market today just hit an All Time High,” Trump said, promoting recent drops in fuel prices and strength in the equities market. “Tariffs are bringing in Hundreds of Billions of Dollars, and we are respected as a Nation again.”
While oil and gasoline prices have fallen to their lowest levels since the pandemic, economists note that Trump’s sweeping tariffs have added nearly $1,200 in costs to the average American household this year. Analysts expect that figure to rise next year if tariffs remain in place or are expanded, as Trump has proposed.
Despite insisting that “prices are coming down fast,” many Americans continue to report difficulty affording groceries, rent, health care, and other essentials. Forecasters attribute persistent inflation in several categories directly to increased import costs tied to Trump’s tariff regime.
Trump expressed frustration that the public does not appear to credit him for broader macroeconomic indicators. “When will I get credit for having created, with No Inflation, perhaps the Greatest Economy in the History of our Country?” he asked on social media.
He continued, “When will people understand what is happening? When will Polls reflect the Greatness of America at this point in time, and how bad it was just one year ago?”
The AP–NORC poll suggests voters remain deeply skeptical of Trump’s economic message heading into 2026 — and that affordability concerns continue to overshadow the president’s efforts to claim victory on the economy.
