President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he had brokered an agreement between Thailand and Cambodia to halt renewed border fighting, claiming both nations agreed to immediately cease hostilities following direct talks with the White House.

In a statement posted to Truth Social, Trump said he spoke earlier in the day with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet regarding what he described as a “very unfortunate reawakening” of their long-running conflict.

According to Trump, the two leaders agreed to “CEASE all shooting effective this evening” and return to the terms of an earlier peace accord negotiated during his first term with assistance from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Trump said the violent flare-up began after a roadside explosion killed and injured multiple Thai soldiers near the border. While Cambodian authorities initially claimed the blast was accidental, Thailand “retaliated very strongly,” the president said.

Despite the exchange of fire, Trump asserted that both Bangkok and Phnom Penh remain committed to avoiding a broader conflict and preserving economic ties with the United States. He framed the breakthrough as evidence of his administration’s diplomatic strength.

“Both countries are ready for PEACE and continued Trade with the United States of America,” Trump wrote, adding that he was “honored” to help prevent what he claimed “could have evolved into a major War between two otherwise wonderful and prosperous Countries.”

The president also thanked Malaysia’s Anwar Ibrahim for assisting in what he called “a very important matter,” crediting him once again as a key partner in the original trilateral peace framework.

As of Wednesday afternoon, neither Thailand nor Cambodia had publicly confirmed Trump’s account of the ceasefire agreement, and details of the renewed border clashes remain limited. Historically, the two nations have disputed territory near the Preah Vihear temple, and previous skirmishes have escalated rapidly.

The White House has not released additional information beyond the president’s Truth Social post, and U.S. officials have not yet provided independent verification of the talks or the reported ceasefire timeline.
