President Donald Trump on Monday launched a fresh and aggressive attack on the media, accusing The New York Times of spreading lies and posing what he described as a threat to U.S. national security.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump labeled the newspaper “failing” and claimed it engages in “lies and purposeful misrepresentations,” arguing that its reporting undermines the safety and stability of the nation.

“Their Radical Left, Unhinged Behavior, writing FAKE Articles and Opinions in a never ending way, must be dealt with and stopped,” Trump wrote, escalating his rhetoric beyond past criticisms of the press.

The president went further by reviving one of his most controversial phrases, declaring that the Times is a “TRUE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE,” a label he has repeatedly used against media organizations he views as hostile to his administration.

Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing clashes between the White House and major news outlets over coverage of national security matters, legal investigations, and scrutiny of his administration’s actions and policies.

Throughout his political career, Trump has portrayed mainstream media as biased and politically motivated, often accusing journalists of coordinating with his opponents rather than reporting objectively.

Press freedom advocates have long warned that such rhetoric can erode trust in journalism and contribute to threats and harassment against reporters, concerns that have resurfaced following Trump’s latest comments.

Despite criticism, Trump has defended his attacks on the media as necessary, framing them as a response to what he claims is persistent misinformation and unfair coverage directed at him and his supporters.

The New York Times did not immediately issue a public response to Trump’s post, and the White House has not elaborated further on whether the president believes any specific actions should be taken against the newspaper.
