54-Year-Old Stonington Resident Found Dead at Town Dock Following Overnight Missing Person Search

A 54-year-old Stonington man was found dead Sunday morning in the area of the Stonington Town Dock after an overnight search involving multiple local, state, and federal agencies, authorities confirmed.
According to the Stonington Police Department, the man was reported missing at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday. Officers began searching shortly after the report and later located the man near the town dock early Sunday. He was last known to have been aboard a docked commercial fishing vessel earlier in the evening.
Police have not publicly released the man’s identity, pending notification of next of kin.
“At this time, there does not appear to be anything suspicious related to this incident,” the Stonington Police Department said in a statement, adding that the investigation remains ongoing as standard procedure.
A large multi-agency response was launched as part of the search effort. Assisting agencies included the Stonington Police Department, fire departments from Pawcatuck, Yantic, Old Mystic, Stonington, and Westerly, as well as the Stonington Ambulance Association. Federal and state resources were also deployed, including the United States Coast Guard, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit. Providence Canteen provided additional support services on scene.
Authorities did not provide details on how the man was discovered or the exact time his body was recovered, but officials confirmed that emergency personnel responded quickly once the missing person report was filed.
The Stonington Police Department expressed gratitude to the agencies and volunteers who assisted in the response.
“The Stonington Police Department would like to thank all assisting agencies and volunteers for their prompt response and assistance during this search,” the department said.
No further information has been released as the investigation continues.
