Donald Trump said he has completed what he described as a “long and thorough” phone call with Xi Jinping, calling the conversation highly productive and wide-ranging as he prepares for a visit to China in April.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump said the two leaders covered numerous global and economic topics during the discussion, characterizing the overall tone of the call as “very positive.”
Among the issues discussed, Trump listed trade, military matters, Taiwan, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and the current situation involving Iran.
He also highlighted what he described as potential expansion in energy cooperation, saying China is considering increased purchases of American oil and gas.
Agriculture was another major focus of the call, according to Trump. He said China is weighing lifting its soybean purchases to 20 million tons for the current season.
Trump further claimed that China has already committed to purchasing 25 million tons of soybeans for the next season, suggesting a significant boost for American farmers.
The former president also mentioned discussions about airplane engine deliveries, signaling potential developments in aviation-related trade between the two nations.
Trump emphasized what he called his “extremely good” personal relationship with Xi, saying both leaders understand how important it is to maintain stable ties between their countries.
He concluded by saying he expects “many positive results” to come from the relationship over the next three years and expressed enthusiasm for his upcoming April trip to China.
