Chaos Erupts After Trump Announces Khamenei’s Death While Iran Says He’s ‘Commanding the Field’
Confusion and competing narratives erupted Sunday after Iranian state-linked news agencies pushed back against reports that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been killed in Israeli strikes.
Iranian outlets Tasnim and Mehr reported that Khamenei remained alive and was “steadfast and firm in commanding the field,” dismissing claims circulating internationally that he had been killed.
Earlier, an Israeli official told Reuters that Khamenei had died and that his body had been found following coordinated U.S.-Israeli military operations. No independent confirmation has been provided.
President Donald Trump further escalated the situation in a lengthy post on Truth Social, declaring that Khamenei was dead and describing the operation as a decisive blow against Iran’s leadership.
“The heavy and pinpoint bombing will continue,” Trump wrote, saying the campaign would proceed “as long as necessary to achieve our objective of peace throughout the Middle East and, indeed, the world.”
Trump also claimed that Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps members and security forces were seeking immunity, suggesting internal fractures within Iran’s military establishment. Those claims have not been independently verified.
Iran’s government has not issued a formal televised statement confirming Khamenei’s status, but official-affiliated media insist he remains alive and directing operations.
The reports come amid escalating military exchanges between Iran and Israel, with missile barrages and air defenses activated across the region. The broader conflict has raised fears of a widening regional war.
Global markets reacted nervously to the uncertainty, while world leaders called for verification of the reports and urged restraint.
