Trump Brags About Taking Dementia Screening Test Multiple Times Critics Ask: ‘Why Keep Taking It?’

Donald Trump is once again highlighting his performance on a cognitive test but this time, his comments are prompting fresh scrutiny rather than reassurance.

Speaking off-script on Monday, Trump said he has now taken the exam three separate times.

“I’ve taken three,” he said. “No president think of this has ever taken one.” He added that he chooses to take the test whenever someone calls him a “moron.”

The exam he frequently references, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), is not an intelligence test. It’s a basic screening tool used to identify potential signs of cognitive decline linked to conditions like dementia. Its creators have emphasized that it’s designed to be straightforward for individuals with normal cognitive function.

It’s the same test Trump described in 2020 with the widely discussed “person, woman, man, camera, TV” sequence, which he cited at the time as proof of his mental sharpness.

Now, Trump says he has taken the test at least twice more since then.

He also pushed back on media coverage, arguing that reports tend to focus on the earliest and simplest questions, such as identifying animals.

“By the time you get to the middle, they’re tough,” he said.

In practice, mid-test tasks typically include exercises like naming words that start with a specific letter or counting backward by sevens standard components of basic cognitive screening.

Trump made similar remarks days earlier during an appearance at a senior community in Florida, again emphasizing that he had passed multiple cognitive tests.

For some observers, however, the repeated emphasis on the exam has raised additional questions.

If the test is intended to flag cognitive concerns, critics ask, why take it multiple times and why continue to highlight it?

For many, the issue isn’t whether Trump passed the test, but why he continues to point to it so often.
