In a fiery and wide-ranging post on Truth Social, Donald Trump urged Republican-controlled state legislatures to aggressively redraw congressional maps ahead of the midterms, framing the move as essential to securing a House majority as his poll numbers decline.

“We cannot allow there to be an Election that is conducted unconstitutionally simply for the ‘convenience’ of State Legislatures. If they have to vote twice, so be it,” Trump wrote.

“We should demand that State Legislatures do what the Supreme Court says must be done. That is more important than administrative convenience,” he added. His comments come just days after the U.S. Supreme Court weakened key protections against racial gerrymandering, giving states greater flexibility in how districts are drawn.

What drew particular attention from critics was not just the policy push, but the tone. Trump’s post openly emphasized maximizing partisan advantage at a time when polling trends appear unfavorable.

He also claimed the effort could deliver Republicans more than 20 additional House seats—an assertion analysts say is likely overstated and may reflect confusion about future election cycles. Still, the broader message was clear: redraw district lines to maintain political power.

“The byproduct is that the Republicans will receive more than 20 House Seats in the upcoming Midterms!” Trump concluded.

The remarks reinforce a long-standing concern among critics that redistricting is increasingly being used as a political tool rather than a process aimed at fair representation.

With control of the House at stake, battles over district maps are once again intensifying.

Democrats now face a familiar dilemma: pursue similarly aggressive redistricting strategies or risk losing ground in a system where electoral outcomes can be shaped by how districts are drawn.
