Trump Condemned Over 'Racist' And 'Disgusting' Video Of Obamas: 'There's No Bottom'

Former President Donald Trump drew widespread condemnation Friday after posting a controversial video on his Truth Social account that critics say crossed another line in a long pattern of racist and inflammatory behavior.

The 62-second clip, which Trump shared without commentary, recycled debunked conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election and briefly depicted former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama as cartoon animals. Near the 59-second mark, the video cuts to footage in which the Obamas’ faces appear superimposed onto the bodies of a chimpanzee and a gorilla — imagery many critics immediately condemned as overtly racist.

The video is set to the song The Lion Sleeps Tonight, a choice that further amplified backlash online, with civil rights advocates and political commentators calling the post dehumanizing and dangerous.

Trump’s decision to share the clip reignited scrutiny of his long history of promoting false and racially charged claims about Barack Obama. For years, Trump was the most prominent public figure pushing the so-called “birther” conspiracy — a baseless claim asserting that Obama was not born in the United States and was therefore an illegitimate president. The theory was widely condemned as racist and was repeatedly debunked by official records.

Reaction to the video was swift. Critics across social media and political circles said the post demonstrated a continued willingness by Trump to traffic in racist tropes and conspiracy theories, even as he seeks a return to the White House.

“There’s no bottom,” several commentators wrote, arguing that the post reflected an escalation rather than an isolated incident. Others warned that such content further normalizes dehumanization in political discourse and could inflame racial hostility.

Trump has not responded to the criticism or removed the video. As of Friday evening, the clip remained live on his Truth Social account, continuing to circulate widely across platforms and drawing renewed attention to Trump’s record of racially charged rhetoric.

The incident adds to growing concerns among critics that Trump’s online behavior — particularly his embrace of conspiratorial and extremist content — remains central to his political messaging, rather than a relic of past campaigns.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) press office slammed it as “disgusting behavior by the President” and called on “every single Republican” to denounce it. Others agreed:
