FBI Raids Office of Prominent Democratic Leader at the Heart of Ongoing Redistricting Battles

The FBI on Wednesday searched the Portsmouth, Virginia office of state Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas, a senior Democrat tied to the state’s redistricting win, citing alleged corruption.
Lucas, 82, a great-grandmother and outspoken critic of Republicans and President Trump, is closely aligned with Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger. Fox News aired live coverage of the raid.

The FBI is reportedly executing multiple search warrants and is also searching a nearby cannabis dispensary co-owned by Lucas.
She has long supported marijuana legalization, and a 2022 report by the Virginia Mercury found her business was selling delta-9 THC, which is illegal to sell in Virginia, with some products reportedly mislabeled.
Lucas is known for a combative presence on social media, where she has shared posts supporting Virginia’s redistricting efforts and frequently clashed with Republicans, including President Trump and Senator Ted Cruz.
